Canestrelli - Dessert

These tasty biscuits stem from the region of Genua and are not only popular at Christmas time. A special delicacy to be enjoyed with coffee or as a snack!

Main ingredients:
300g ground almonds,
200g sugar,
6 tbsp. orange blossom water,
orange syrup or marmalade,
icing sugar,
some butter
Mix the ground almonds and sugar well. Knead the orange blossom water into the mixture until achieving a smooth dough. Roll out the dough to finger thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out the shapes, e.g. flowers. Grease the baking tray with butter and bake the cut out shapes for 15 – 20 minutes in a preheated oven at 150°C. Then spread with orange syrup or marmalade, sprinkle with icing sugar and leave to cool.
