The Abbazia di Staffarda (daily 09.00 – 12.30, 14.00 – 17.00, summer up to 18.00) lies around 10 km from Saluzzo and is one of the best preserved Cistercian abbeys in Piedmont. The monks once tended the surrounding marshy ground so well that the area became an important agriculture centre.
Today, you can visit the refectory, the dormitory and the beautiful brick-red cloister which offer an insight into the life of the monks who used to live here.
After your tour, you will find refreshments available in the monastery's own bar (closed Mon) which offers home-made maize biscuits and Pasta di Meliga.
