This small Ligurian locality of Testico lies in the wonderful natural vegetation of the Ligurian region. The village lies approximately 68 km from Savona in a hilly mountainous region. It is approx. 18 km from Alassio to the beach. Depending on the particular locality, the location of Testico is between 180 and 953 metres above sea-level, and depending on the particular altitude even the unique panorama view keeps changing.

The unique nature of Testico is determined by these very differences in altitude. The hinterland with its many curves and hills is very suitable for mountain biking. There are wonderful tracks here which can make the heart of any mountain bike fan beat faster. Those who prefer walking will also find a good stretch for hiking.

Besides its good transport network and the wonderful view, the locality also offers optimal conditions for a relaxing, peaceful vacation; It also offers a suitable environment for families to spend time together, or for couples wishing to have some pleasant hours - or even for lonesome souls.

Besides sports activities, Testico also provides wonderful cultural events. One interesting destination for excursions is for example the Castell von Testico, which was constructed in the 13th century by the Doria family. The ruins can still be viewed today.

Another interesting destination is the Church of St. Peter and Paul (Pietro and Paolo) built in the 17th century. Equally interesting is the Cappella della Presentatione di Maria al tempio, which is found in the locality of Ginestro.

There is a supermarket in the immediate vicinity of the church. Besides the essential foodstuffs you can also buy some fresh sausages and cheese here. For larger purchases or a pleasant evening in a beautiful Ligurian restaurant with regional specialities, we recommend that you make a trip to the nearby town of Andora.

History

History

Testico was created as a settlement for military purposes on the hill crest between the Merula and Lerrone valleys. The area belonged to Castellania Montarosio in the 12th and 13th century, and was later taken over together with the other villages by the diocese of Albenga as church fiefdom.

At the end of the 13th century Testico was sold to the Doria family. The locality was an ideal safe haven against Pirate attacks in medieval times. In 1576 Testico came under the possession of Duke Emanuele Filiberto of Savoyen.

Since 1805 Testico was part of the French Empire and was integrated in 1815 into the Sardinian kingdom, until Testico became part of the Italian kingdom in 1861. From 1973 to 2011 Testico was part of the Inguana and Ponente Savona mountain community.
