Piedmont
Piedmont is the second largest Italian region and it borders in the South with Liguria. Piedmont is famous for its mountains (the Alps), its plains (the so called Padan Plain), its wines (mainly the area of Langhe and Montferrat), its mediaeval buildings such as the Staffarda Abbey and the Manta Castle and its beautiful towns.
The capital is Turin, which was the capital of the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1864. It is famous worldwide mainly for the FIAT cars, the chocolate, the cafés and the football team Juventus, but has a lot more to offer: for example a beautiful city centre, the majestic tower Mole Antonelliana, interesting museums, churches, baroque buildings, Savoy castles and residences.
