Many tourists are attracted to Lecchiore because of its Laghetti Acquasanta. These are small, crystal-clear, freshwater lakes right in the middle of the forest. It is rumoured that the water in these lakes has a healing effect, as their name Acquasante (holy water) suggests. On cool days one can do some good hiking here, and on hot days you can enjoy a refreshing bath in the warm summer sun. Since these lakes are fed by mountain streams, they remain cool all the time and are therefore suitable for cooling off. They are also very well suited for romantic outings.
Another attraction in the village is the Pilgrimage Church of Maria dell Acquasansta. This church lies above the lakes and originates from the 18th century. The church was built in this area because it is believed that the Madonna once appeared there.
When you go along the Via dell’Acquasante you will find the seductive Giada Country House. You can spend a romantic evening in a relaxed atmosphere there, and enjoy the specialties offered in the house. From your table you can even watch the chef prepare the dishes through the open glass kitchen. You can choose between home-made pasta, vegetables and, small home-made cakes, mixed grill with meat and fish dishes, and lots more. There is always something for everybody in this place.
History
Lecchiore is a small mountain village in the municipality of Dolcedo. The village lies in an idyllic location in the Prino valley. Lecchiore was already settled by human populations during the Middle Ages, and this small, medieval old town with stone houses and narrow lanes has remained well-maintained to date. Lecchiore and 15 other villages were integrated into the municipality of Dolcedo in the 12th century.
How to reach
Lecchiore belongs to the municipality of Dolcedo and is one of the villages in the province of Imperia which lies in the Liguria region. There are several other villages near Lecchiore and they include: Bellissimi (1.1 km), Dolcedo (4.6 km) and Costa Canara (3.2 km). When coming from Genoa, take the highway exit to Imperia Ovest and drive along Corso Salvador Allende up to SP11. Thereafter follow the SP42 and change onto Via Castellazzo up to Lecchiore.
